Forest engineer: career profile


Forest Engineering generates opportunities across a wide spectrum of employment possibilities in forestry, environmental management, management of natural resources, land use planning, farm management and forest industries. Forest engineers can also work, as advisers on project engineering, construction, innovation and design.

According to a survey done by the College of Forest Engineers in the first quarter of 2003, 89% of respondents were engaged in the following professional fields:

• Civil engineering work in forestry

• Water restoration

• Nurseries
• Wood construction
• Teaching
• Game and fish management
• Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
• Renewable energies
• Environmental quality
• Gardening & landscaping
• Mapping
• Forest policy and planning

The remaining 11% were involved in fields not related to the forest environment:

• Civil engineering work
• Computing
• Economy and finance
