    The PhD Program on “Advanced Forest Research” offers a sound training opportunity for graduate students in an area of increasing relevance. The program is committed to further understanding and protecting forest resources and the environment, following a multidisciplinary approach. Our fundamental goal is to prepare students to deal with significant applied problems, as well as to advance knowledge through original, high-quality research, in line with the objectives of the European Higher-Education Area.

Research in the forest sector has evolved considerably in the last decades, with the integration of new methodological tools in practically every relevant field. We believe that a general knowledge of such developments must play a central role in the formative process. In this regard, our professors have an outstanding scientific record.

The research lines offered in this program reflect the scientific and technical activity of eight different departments of our university. Such activity is funded by national and international R & D grants, whose number and total budget have increased significantly over the past few years. Funding partners include public and private institutions as well as forest sector companies, attesting the interest and applicability of our research. Improving the students’ professional skills is one of our priorities, in accordance with the demands of an increasingly complex and multidisciplinar market.
